Halle's Surgery went well!

After 7 days, we are finally home!!!!  Halle's surgery went well!  She is such a strong girl and I am so proud of her!  This has been an extremely painful week for her but she is so strong!

I'm sorry I wasn't able to update the blog earlier, believe it or not, I did not have internet access at the hospital, I was shocked that a big hospital like that didn't have it available for people to connect to!

Halle was fused from T5 to L3, the week was tough, walking for the first time was really painful for her!  She is still unable to get up off the bed by herself and lay down without support.

Halle wasn't allowed to eat until 6 days post op because her stomach was not "waking up" after the surgery.   Her stomach is still not really functioning but they sent us home anyway, with meds to try and help that... fingers crossed it works because so far nothing has!

Here are some pics of Halle's Journey...

Appointment at Sick Kids

Yesterday Halle had an appointment at Sick Kids.  While we were there I bought her a few things that she was so happy about!

Here are some pics!

Our day in Niagara Falls

Halle had a great day today!  We went to Niagara Falls!  She played games at the Midway, she loves it there!  We also went into the wax museum, which she ended being a little scared by, I guess it was a little creepy in there!

Halle had a wax hand made, she was so excited!!  She can't wait to go back and get another one with her sister Kara!

Here are some pics from today...

Last day of School

Today was Halle's last day of School for the rest of the School year.  She had a great day, she received some really sweet gifts, cards and other things from her teacher and classmates!

She also had her last Basketball game!  It happened to be a tournament and they made it to the finals and ended up getting Silver!  I am so proud of her!

Here is a pic  from today at her game with the Medal she won!

Basketball

One of Halle's favorite things to do is play basketball.  She is upset that she will not be able to play it for 1 year after her surgery.

Halle is on the girls junior basketball team at school.  She had a game tonight and did great, they won!!  We are very proud of her!  Her last game will be next Wednesday, May 11th, which will be a Tournament, so we are happy that she will be able to participate in that!

It's May...

Well it's May now and the Surgery is approaching.  Halle is doing well, although she is starting to get nervous.  We know that she will be fine though and she has so much love and support!

Pictures of Halle's curve @ 55+ degrees

My daughter Halle

I have decided to start this Blog for my daughter Halle.  She is 11 years old and has Scoliosis.

Halle was first diagnosed at the age of 8.  She has been treated with 2 spinal braces, Spinecor Brace and Cheneau Brace.  Unfortunately the braces were unable to correct her curve and her spine got worse.

On January 25th, Halle had her appointment at The Hospital for Sick Children with Dr. Zeller and we were told that her curve had progressed to 55+ degrees.   We were not expecting this news, so it was a real shock to us.  She will now have a Spinal Fusion on May 16, 2011.
